Macaw and Eggs

From Planned Parrothood.

Q: I am interested in hatching parrot eggs but, I am not sure where to look for a supplier that I can trust. If possible, can you give me some guidance in this matter? Thanks.

A: Trusted breeders don't sell their eggs. They may have others incubate, hatch and feed for them if you're very experienced at doing so, but they don't sell them. Even slight jarring or temp fluctuation during transport can kill the embryos, so it's a very risky thing altogether. Artificial incubation is difficult unless you have state of the art equipment. It is best left up to the parent birds to hatch successfully. There are so many unscrupulous scammers out there looking to take advantage of people like yourself.

We've seen a lot of these, and even have other examples posted. The scammer claims to be local, but they aren't. When you ask to come visit the animal first (which you should do before any purchase of a pet) the either stop responding to you, or make an excuse that you have to send them money for a 'deposit' or 'paperwork'. That is complete and utter bull...

First of all, breeders of macaws and other such large parrots don't sell the eggs. They are too fragile and valuable for that. (we just went to a bird show recently, and breeders there laughed at the idea) These animals are not chickens, they don't breed that easily. It's one reason they are so expensive boys and girls. Use common sense here.

Secondly, no legitimate breeder would require you put down a deposit before you can even come view the animal. Sometimes these scumbags will even claim you need to make a donation to some orphanage or other charity before you can view the pet. Don't believe a word of it. There is no pet, just a con job.

What would follow is that you are requested to send the money either Western Union or MoneyGram. Big Mistake folks.

Also note, they originally claimed to be in Houston. Then gave an address as 'Bastos". There is no Bastos Texas. There is a Bastos in Cameroon, go figure.

Again, to report a g-mail address for fraud, forward a copy of it, including full headers, to abuse@gmail.com.
